How Court Marriages Work

A traditional Court Marriage is solemnized directly under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, without any religious rituals or ceremonies.

The 30-Day Notice Period: To proceed with a direct court marriage, the couple must submit a formal application at the Marriage Registrar's Office. A mandatory 30-day notice is published. If no objections are raised within 30 days, the marriage is solemnized in the presence of 3 witnesses.

Court Marriage Steps

• Step 1: Preparation of documents (age, residence, affidavits).
• Step 2: Submitting joint notice of marriage at the sub-registrar office.
• Step 3: Completion of the 30-day statutory notice publication period.
• Step 4: Solemnization in the registrar office in the presence of 3 witnesses.
• Step 5: Issuance of Government Court Marriage Certificate.
